    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: CIS 175 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This is a second course in the use of the RPG programming language in which emphasis is placed on using the more advanced features of the language. Students are introduced to modular programming, static and dynamic binding, and the use of service programs in the Integrated Language Environment (ILE). Students are also introduced to coding using IBM's CODE/400, a client-server pc-based application development environment. Other topics include Operations Navigator, a Graphical User Interface (GUI), used to create, change, and maintain iSeries/400 objects and traditional iSeries/400 application development tools such as Source Entry Utility (SEU), Screen Design Aid (SDA), and Data File Utility (DFU). The emphasis is on the creation of interactive programs versus batch programs. Advanced topics include the use of subfiles for interactive programs and an introduction to SQL' s Data Definition Language (DDL) and Data Manipulation Language (DML). Programming is done both on a stand-alone pc-compatible workstation and on an iSeries midrange computer. Transfer Credit: CSU

Students are introduced to modular programming in procedural and event-driven programs. They are also introduced to static and dynamic binding, and the use of service programs in the Integrated Language Environment (ILE) and dynamic link libraries ( DLL's) for pc-based standalone applications. VisualAge RPG is part of a suite of application development tools called WebSphere Development Tools/400. Transfer Credit: CSU

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: CIS 175 and CIS 205 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher. This is a course on designing web applications on an IBM (International Business Machines) iSeries/400 midrange computer using knowledge of HTML (Hyper Text Marjup Language) and ILE RPG (Integrated Language Environment Report Program Generator). The course topics include configuring the HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) server on the iSeries/400 and declaring HTTP server instances, JavaScript, TCP/IP (Transport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol), the iSeries/400 IFS (Integrated File System) and the use of API's (Application Program Interfaces). The language RPG is used to create CGI (Common Gateway Interface) programs that "web enable" existing RPG programs that produce output to terminal screens or spooled files for later printing. This course is designed to extend both the students' skills in computer programming and their knowledge of the most frequently used language in business data processing. The emphasis will be on file processing and the advanced features of a high level implementation of COBOL including: COBOL Sort, Report Writer, Subroutine and Subprogram Linkage, COBOL Library, etc. Transfer Credit: CSU
