Class hours: One (1) hours control class each week plus 15 hours of employment per week for Instructional Aide work experience 73 or 20 hours of employment per week for Instructional Aide work experience 74. The employment must be in a job related to the student's educational goal. Corequisite: Enrollment in the Instructional Aide vocational program with 7 or more units including occupational work experience. Occupational Work Experience is a supervised employment program in an approved workstation related to the student's declared major. Students meet with their instructor for a minimum of one hour per week and will receive credit for on-the-job learning experiences that are new or are an expansion of their regular responsibilities. Students who are not employed but wish to gain work experience may be placed in a non-paying position if such opportunities are available. These courses may be taken for a maximum of 2 times based on the number of hours on the job.

Class hours: 3.0 Lecture This course is designed to introduce students to principles of classroom experiences. In addition to the dynamics of grade level instruction, emphasis is placed on how childrenlearn, the curriculum of the classroom, discipline and guidance techniques and the role of the paraprofessional or volunteer within a school setting. Attention will be placed on bilingual, multicultural instruction, and special education.

Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/6.0 Laboratory This course offers the student the opportunity to work as an instructional aide under the supervision of professional staff in an elementary or secondary school setting. Content will include developing skills, techniques, and strategies for working in the multilingual/multiethnic classroom. Classroom placement will be arranged for those students not employed by a school district. This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times.

The course content includes roles of the director, teacher and aide, laws and regulations, and considerations relating to learning objectives, developmental needs and other key factors. This course presents the principles of administration and supervision of school-age child care programs. Emphasized are the role of the director, teacher, and aide; laws and regulations; and a study of objectives, curricula, developmental needs, and other key factors for operating such programs. Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/3.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: CDSA 155 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course provides practical experiences in an extended child care program. It provides the opportunity to assist the teacher in the Center by planning, preparing, and implementing activities with school-age children. Students will also explore guidance techniques, room environment, tutoring, record keeping, and other extended child care responsibilities.
