    Class hours: 1.1 Laboratory This course increases the business students knowledge of computer technology resources on campus, improves student use of computer technology for successful completion of technology-based course assignments, and improves student confidence in utilizing computer technology. Special attention will be given to skills necessary for success in distance education courses. This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis only.

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Recommendation: BCOT 131 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. Concurrent enrollment in BCOT 3T. This course is designed to prepare students for employment as legal secretaries. It emphasizes procedures, preparations of calendars, formatting wills and probates. Students will learn how to document telephone calls, maintain financial records, and perform other secretarial duties relevant to a legal office. This course meets 90 hours of the legal requirement for Court Reporting certification. This course may be taken in a traditional classroom setting or online environment.

    Class hours: 1.5 Lecture Prerequisite: SPAN 112 or SPAN 201 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is for the person who has a basic background in the Spanish language and who needs to learn specific field-related terminology and vocabulary for the legal offices that serve Spanish-speaking clients.

    Class hours: 4.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: BCOT 131 or BCOT 132, BCOT 162, and BCOM 46 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher. Recommendation: Concurrent enrollment in BCOT 3T and the ability to type 30 wpm. This course is designed to teach the student legal terminology in order to be able to transcribe and key legal documents. The student will also learn the skills and knowledge necessary for the production of high-quality legal documents through the total transcription concept and for the development of proper machine dictation skills/procedures. The emphasis is on understanding, defining, and using over 900 terms in the legal context; skillful keyboarding; and accurate proofreading to produce quality, finished legal documents on electronic equipment/microcomputers.

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Recommendation: BCOT 62 and concurrent enrollment in BCOT 3T. This course is designed to teach students the technological skills necessary to communicate in today's e-commerce computer-oriented business environment. The course will cover electronic mail (e-mail), desktop publishing for electronic dissemination, Web page design, electronic presentations, and Outlook. This course can be taken in a traditional classroom setting, in an individualized modular setting, or in an online learning environment.

This course introduces the student to word processing functions on the IBM compatible personal computers using Microsoft Word for Windows software. Topics include Core Level MOUS skills for Microsoft Word functions such as creating, printing, and editing word documents, formatting documents, creating and formatting tables, inserting graphic elements; and exploring the Internet. This course prepares the student for Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) Word Core Certification. This course can be taken in a traditional classroom setting, in an individualized modular setting, or in an online learning environment.

This course emphasizes advanced word processing functions on the IBM compatible personal computers using Microsoft Word for Windows software. Topics include Expert Level MOUS Skills for Microsoft Word functions such as formatting with special features; merging documents and sorting and selecting data; working with shared documents; creating tables and indexes; recording, running, and editing macros; creating fill-in forms; and adding visual appeal to documents. This course prepares the student for Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) Word Expert Certification. This course can be taken in a traditional classroom setting, in an individualized modular setting, or in an online learning environment.

    Class hours: 1.5 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Recommendation: Concurrent enrollment in BCOT 3T. This course introduces the student to spreadsheet functions on the IBM compatible personal computers using Microsoft Excel for Windows software. Topics include Core Level MOUS Skills for Microsoft Excel functions such as preparing and formatting an Excel worksheet, maintaining and enhancing a worksheet, moving data within and between workbooks, inserting formulas in a worksheet, creating a chart in Excel, inserting clip art images, and creating maps. This course prepares the student for Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) Excel Core Certification. This course can be taken in a traditional classroom setting, in a individualized modular setting, or in an online learning environment.

    Class hours: 1.5 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Recommendation: Concurrent enrollment in BCOT 3T. This course emphasizes advanced spreadsheet functions on the IBM compatible personal computers using Microsoft Excel for Windows software. Topics include Expert Level MOUS Skills for Microsoft Excel functions such as formatting Excel worksheets using advanced formatting techniques; working with templates and workbooks, using advanced functions; working with lists; using Excel's analysis tools; managing and auditing worksheets; collaborating with workgroups; importing and exporting data. This course prepares the student for Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) Excel Expert Certification. This course can be taken in a traditional classroom setting, in an individualized modular setting, or in an online learning environment.
