Recommendation: WMT 201 This advanced course covers the design and building of museum quality solid wood cabinets. Topics include the aesthetics of design, making scale mockups, selection of grain and color to complement the design, and advanced joinery techniques. Coopering, bent laminating, and basic veneering are also covered. Emphasis is placed on the highest degree of workmanship and design. This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. This course introduces the student to the methods, materials, tools, and machinery used to process wood veneers. Topics include material identification, veneer selection, pattern layout, substrate selection, and clamping methods used to lay-up veneer on various types and shapes of substrates. This advanced course expands the student's knowledge of tables design and construction to include large tables such as dining and conference tables, expanding tables, and torsion box table top construction. Topics include table design, advanced table construction, bent lamination, curved part joinery and angled joinery. This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. Transfer Credit: CSU

Recommendation: WMT 102 or WMT 103 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. In this course students will design and manufacture "The Ultimate Router Table." The router table is one of the most versatile and essential pieces of equipment for any woodworker. Course topics include comparison and evaluation of routers available on the market, design, construction, and use of jigs and fixtures. This course may be taken for a maximum of 2 times. This advanced woodturning course enhances the beginning woodturning student's skill. Topics include polychromatic bowl construction, closed-form vessel turning, and other advanced skills. This course allows students to perfect and hone skills acquired during previous woodturing courses. In this lab, students design and construct woodturing projects of their choice that are relevant to the subject matter being taught during the same time period. This course provides students with the necessary time and facility to continue working a project to completion. Instruction is project specific with emphasis on problem solving and detail.     Class hours: 2.5 Lecture/5.5 Laboratory Prerequisite: WMT 102 and WMT 103 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher. This course in furniture making will challenge and improve the student's skills through the manufacturing of a historical chair, the Morris chair. Hand tools, machinery and hand power tools are used in an advanced setting. Topics include planning, manufacturing, utilizing solid wood joinery, complex laminations, subassembly and final assembly as well as finishing. The class focuses on the history and design of the Morris Chair, the first recliner. This course may be taken a maximum of 3 times. Transfer Credit: CSU
