This course provides instruction to the student who has become proficient with basic costume construction practices and techniques. In this course, the focus is on pattern drafting, cutting, fitting, construction, and decoration of costumes. The design and construction of costumes is underscored by a historical perspective.     Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/3.0 Laboratory This course introduces the student to the basic principles and techniques of scenic design for the theatre. The class will be involved in the conceptualization, analysis, and actual exploration of the design process.     Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Prerequisite: ENGL 52 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course provides an opportunity for students to develop a screenplay for television or motion pictures. Students learn the craft of screenwriting by studying published scripts, movies, and TV shows and by writing synopses, treatments scenes, and a production-worthy screenplay.     Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/4.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: TH 153 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This is an advanced course in the elements and practice of motion picture production. Students create and direct advanced motion picture projects using either 16mm film or digital video.     Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/3.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: TH 193 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course takes students through the more advanced features of current editing software such as Final Cut Pro 5, Live Type, Photoshop Elements, and Motion 2 to develop advanced skills in editing, compositing, and motion graphics to create better-edited projects.     Class hours: 3.0 Independent Study A course to provide opportunity for individual research and field projects under the direction of a faculty member in a given department. With the guidance of the faculty member, students prepare and carry out a written learning agreement describing the purposes and outcomes of the project. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. For selected disciplines, UC transfer credit may be possible after admission to a UC campus, pending review of appropriate course materials by UC staff. See a counselor for an explanation.     Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Prerequisite: MATH 40 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher or satisfactory completion of the Math Placement Process. This course is an introduction to the principles of algebra, geometry, and basic trigonometry as needed by students planning to work in any area of technology. Topics are covered which have particular emphasis on equations and formulas found in the shop area and drafting labs. Calculations of area, volume and layout are stressed. Conversions between English and metric measurements are introduced. The students will learn to solve right angle trigonometry problems and will learn how to find solutions to oblique triangles using the law of sines and the law of cosines.
