    Class hours: 3.0 Independent Study A course to provide opportunity for individual research and field projects under the direction of a faculty member in a given department. With the guidance of the faculty member, students prepare and carry out a written learning agreement describing the purposes and outcomes of the project. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. For selected disciplines, UC transfer credit may be possible after admission to a UC campus, pending review of appropriate course materials by UC staff. See a counselor for an explanation.     Class hours: 3.0 Laboratory This course is designed for students with a communication difficulty. Speech-Language-Hearing problems such as articulation, stuttering, voice disorders, regional or foreign dialects, language impairments due to a hearing loss are dealt with by individual or small group therapy. This course may be taken for a maximum of 4 times. The course is to be offered on a credit/no credit basis.

    Class hours: 3.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: 4 units of SPCH 30 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is a continuation of individual and/or small group therapy for students with a communication difficulty, such as articulation, stuttering, voice disorders, regional or foreign dialects, language usage, and speech and language impairments due to hearing loss. It is a continuation of SPCH 30 for students who require further instruction. This course may be taken for a maximum of 4 times. This course is offered on a Credit/No Credit basis.

    Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory This course is a practicum in speech-communication within a career or occupational role. Theory will serve as a basis for the practical application of communication principles. Effective interaction with superiors, co-workers and the public is stressed.

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture This course is designed for students who need an introductory course in oral communication. It will aid them in conversation, small group interaction, identification of speaking purposes, supporting ideas, and listening skills. Videotape is used as an evaluative tool.

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture This broad survey of the entire theatre field focuses on modern theatre practice and theory. Some historical background is provided. Topics include stage lighting and design, acting and directing, properties and costume, theatre architecture, make-up, career opportunities, and playwriting. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

The role of theatre in human affairs will be explored, and particular attention will be given to the way theatre shapes-and is shaped by-the cultural, intellectual, and political forces of its time.     Class hours: 3.0 Lecture This course is designed to introduce the student to the history and literature of the theatre from French Classicism to the 20th Century. The role of theatre in human affairs will be explored, and particular attention will be given to the way theatre shapes--and is shaped by-the cultural, intellectual, and political forces of its time.     Class hours: 3.0 Lecture This course introduces the student to the history and literature of the musical theatre from mid-19th century to present day. The course will explore the stylistic distinctions found in the musical as well as its social and cultural significance. Emphasis is placed on the contributions and influence of the individual writer, composer, or lyricist. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC
