    Class hours: 6.0 Independent Study A course to provide opportunity for individual research and field projects under the direction of a faculty member in a given department. With the guidance of the faculty member, students prepare and carry out a written learning agreement describing the purposes and outcomes of the project. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. For selected disciplines, UC transfer credit may be possible after admission to a UC campus, pending review of appropriate course materials by UC staff. See a counselor for an explanation.     Class hours: 5.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory This beginning course corresponding to SPAN 101 is designed for students already able to understand and speak the language as used in everyday situations. SPAN 101 and SPAN 111 combined: maximum credit, one course.

This course is a continuation of SPAN 111 or SPAN 101 designed for the native speaker. It corresponds to SPAN 102 with an emphasis on oral and written communication. This course is designed for students that already speak, understand and have studied Spanish. It helps develop the appreciation of cultural diversity through the study of differences and similarities between the diverse Latin-American and Spanish cultures. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC* *UC credit limits may apply. SPAN 102 and SPAN 112 combined: maximum credit, one course.

This course provides a review and in-depth study of important grammatical concepts. Reading and interpretation of literary works by Hispanic writers and guided and original compositions are included. This course will further develop the appreciation of cultural diversity. The class is conducted primarily in Spanish. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

    Class hours: 4.0 Lecture Prerequisite: SPAN 201 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course provides a review and in-depth study of grammatical concepts. Reading and interpretation of literary works by Latin American and Spanish writers, and guided and original compositions are included. This course provides further practice in the discussion and presentation of current cultural topics through literature. This class, conducted primarily in Spanish, will further develop the appreciation of cultural diversity and is recommended for all Spanish majors. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Prerequisite: SPAN 201 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course is a continuation of the development of Spanish composition skills and applied grammar. Compositions are assigned to develop specific writing skills and improve critical judgment. This course will further develop the appreciation of cultural diversity. The class is conducted primarily in Spanish. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC
