    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture This course provides basic knowledge about Over-the-Counter (OTC) products in relation to their accepted therapeutic uses. Students will understand the steps involved in safely choosing a non-prescription product.

This course is designed to provide the student with practical clerk experiences in selected outpatient community pharmacy settings working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture Corequisite: PHAR 60L This introductory course is designed to provide the student with an overview of the pharmacy profession and the role of the pharmacist, pharmacy technician and pharmacy clerk in community-based retail pharmacies. Students will be introduced to pharmacy law, will learn how to read and process prescriptions, and will be trained in the communication skills necessary to work in a retail setting.

    Class hours: 0.7 Lecture/1.3 Laboratory Corequisite: PHAR 60 This course is designed to provide the student with hands-on experience working with a computerized Pharmacy Management System in the retail setting. (Formerly PHAR 40L)

    Class hours: 0.7 Lecture/0.3 Laboratory Prerequisite: PHAR 60 or equivalent with a grade of Pass of "C" or higher. This course is designed for the student to develop those skills necessary to work in a setting dealing with patients, pharmacists, and co-workers in an inpatient setting. The student will develop an understanding of hospital distribution systems, medication order transcription and interpretation of various sections of a patient's profile.

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: PHAR 62 with grade of Credit or "C" or higher. Recommendation: Verification of typing proficiency at 30 wpm or BCOT 135 or equivalent with a grade of Credit or "C" or higher. This course is designed for the Pharmacy Technician major to develop proficiency in skills necessary to both hospital and community pharmacy settings. It will also introduce students to the many contemporary issues facing the pharmacy profession. Included will be use of forms, drug formularies, patient profiles, patient charts, processing of medication orders, drug manufacturing and packaging, and computers.

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: PHAR 50 and PHAR 63 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher. PHAR 63 may be taken concurrently with PHAR 64; however PHAR 64 cannot be taken prior to PHAR 63. This course is designed to develop proficiency in manufacture and storage of medications, including intravenous admixtures and antineoplastic substances. It includes disease processes, infection control, manufacturing standards and pharmacy equipment.

    Class hours: One (1) hour control class each week plus 15 hours of employment per week for Pharmacy Technician work experience 73 or 20 hours of employment per week for Pharmacy Technician work experience 74. The employment must be in a job related to the student's educational goal. Corequisite: Enrollment in the Pharmacy Technology vocational program with 7 or more units including occupational work experience. Occupational Work Experience is a supervised employment program in an approved work station related to the student's declared major. Students meet with their instructor for a minimum of one hour per week and will receive credit for on-the-job learning experiences that are new or are an expansion of their regular responsibilities. This course may be repeated for a maximum of 2 times based on the number of hours on the job. (Formerly PHAR 173/174)

    Class hours: One (1) hour control class each week plus 15 hours of employment per week for Pharmacy Technician work experience 73 or 20 hours of employment per week for PharmacyTechnician work experience 74. The employment must be in a job related to the student's educational goal.
