    Class hours: 0.3 Lecture/1.8 Laboratory Prerequisite: Current license as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician or Licensed Vocational Nurse or completion of one or more nursing core courses in an approved/accredited nursing program. The purpose of this course is to provide the nursing applicant with theoretical concepts and skill demonstration and practice related to clinical competency necessary for advanced placement students entering the second year of the nursing program. Included are assessment processes and individualized planning to assist the student in attaining the necessary level of skills competence to support success in the nursing program. This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis only. This course may be taken for a maximum of 3 times.

    Class hours: 3.0 Independent Study A course to provide opportunity for individual research and field projects under the direction of a faculty member in a given department. With the guidance of the faculty member, students prepare and carry out a written learning agreement describing the purposes and outcomes of the project. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. For selected disciplines, UC transfer credit may be possible after admission to a UC campus, pending review of appropriate course materials by UC staff. See a counselor for an explanation.     Class hours: 2.0 Lecture This course is designed for students planning to enter the nursing career. Content includes how to use time and other resources to become a successful nursing student. Overviews of nursing career options and educational pathways are presented, along with trends affecting nursing's future. Students are introduced to communication skills for use with a diverse student and patient population.

    Class hours: 2.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: Admission to the Nursing Program. This course is designed as an elective course to facilitate the development of nursing skills that are taught in the Nursing Program. This course is also designed to assist students who need time to practice nursing skills to achieve mastery in performance in a supervised lab setting through individualized and mediated instruction. It is open to students in continuous enrollment, readmitted, or transferring into the Nursing Program. This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis only. This course may be taken a maximum of 4 times.

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture Recommendation: Achievement of a score below benchmark on the diagnostic assessment test. This course is designed to facilitate the success of students pursuing entry into a nursing program who did not reach the benchmark score on the diagnostic assessment test. The aim of the course is to aid students in identifying and strengthening areas needed in academic preparation for a nursing program, as well as to develop critical thinking and study skills essential to success. Resources available to facilitate student success will be identified and explored. This course is offered on a credit/no credit basis only. This course may be taken a maximum of 3 times.

    Class hours: 1.0 Lecture/0.5 Laboratory Prerequisite: NRSG 210 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher or admission to the Nursing Program. The focus of this course is on the documentation of the physical and psychosocial assessment of patients utilizing the Nursing Process. Emphasis is also placed on the reporting and recording of assessment findings using appropriate medical terminology applicable to the clinical nursing setting. This course may be taken a maximum of 3 times.

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture This course is a survey of physical education and sport along with the allied fields and their significance in the school and non-school program. Emphasis will be placed on the acquisition of leadership skills and knowledge in planning, organizing, presenting and evaluating activities.
