    Class hours: 5.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: MUSIC 105 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This is a basic course in music theory and musicianship. Orientation is given in the basic elements of major and minor harmony, intervals, keys, triads, voice leading, non-harmonic tones, and seventh chords. Sight singing, ear training, keyboard harmony, melodic dictation, computer music software, computer literacy for musicians, and notation software will also be studied. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

This is a course in music theory and musicianship dealing with Baroque and Classical harmony. Orientation is given in advanced four-part chorale writing, primary and secondary triads, modulation, inversion, dominant 7ths, and non-dominant seventh chords. Other topics to be covered are intermediate keyboard harmony and dictation, intermediate sight singing, chordal identification, diatonic scale degrees, and chordal dictation. There will be the continuing study and usage of music software, rhythm machines, and computer based notation programs. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

    Class hours: 5.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: MUS 107 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This is a course in music theory and musicianship dealing with Classical and Romantic harmony. Attention is given in advanced four-part chorale writing, piano style writing, secondary triads, advanced modulation, inversion, dominant 7ths, non-dominant seventh chords, ninth chords, eleventh chords, and thirteenth chords. Other topics to be covered are advanced keyboard harmony and dictation, advanced chromatic scale degrees, and chordal dictation involving secondary dominants. There will be the continuing study and usage of music software, rhythm machines, and computer-based notation programs. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

    Class hours: 5.0 Lecture/2.0 Laboratory Prerequisite: MUS 108 or equivalent with a grade of Credit or "C" or higher. This is a course in music theory and musicianship dealing with Romantic and 20th century harmony. Orientation is given in piano style writing, all chromatically altered chords, advanced modulation, inversion, non-dominant seventh chords, half and fully diminished 7th chords, whole tone harmony, and elements of late Romanticism, Impressionism and the 20th century. Other topics to be covered are advanced keyboard harmony and dictation, advanced sight singing, advanced chordal identification, diatonic and chromatic scale degrees, and chordal dictation involving secondary dominants and chromaticism. There will be the continuing study and usage of music software, rhythm machines, and computer-based notation programs. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

    Class hours: 2.0 Lecture/1.0 Laboratory This course focuses on basic study technique, which will include reading, writing, listening and playing. A variety of elementary piano repertoire will be studied. Students learn to understand, experience and appreciate the fundamentals of keyboard musicianship. This course focuses on the continuation of basic piano, which will include reading, writing, listening and playing. A variety of piano repertoire will be studied. A variety of assigned piano repertoire will be studied. Emphasis will be on understanding, experiencing and appreciating more advanced course of keyboard musicianship. A variety of elementary vocal repertoire is introduced from different musical styles: folk, classical, musical theater, and popular songs. Students learn to use the unamplified voice to its best advantage and to interpret and perform songs suited to their individual ability. A concentration on musicianship is emphasized using ear-training techniques. This course may be taken for a maximum of 2 times. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC
