    Class hours: 6.5 Laboratory Corequisite: HO 9 This course is designed to teach the student the practical skills necessary to perform pre-hospital emergency care. Areas of instruction include scene and physical patient assessment, safe and proper utilization of equipment, and hospital and ambulance clinical experience. Successful candidates in HO 9 and HO 9L will be eligible for verification of course completion. The combination of HO 9 and HO 9L meets the didactic, certifying skills exam, and clinical experiences set forth in the California Code of Regulations for Emergency Medical Technician hours of instruction. Additional testing and certification process is required to use the name Emergency Medical Technician - 1 or Basic. This course may be taken for a maximum of 2 times and does not guarantee state certification. Uniform will be required. Clearance of criminal background check may be required prior to clinical field experience.

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Recommendation: ENGL 52 and READ 54 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher, are strongly recommended. This is an introductory humanities course which considers the great works of humanity through the ages in painting, music, architecture, sculpture, dance, literature, and philosophy as they relate to the universal problems of humankind and today's students. Everyone will be encouraged to develop his/her own doctrine of humanity. College level reading is required. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Recommendation: ENGL 52 and READ 54 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher, is strongly recommended. This course surveys the depiction and development of images of Blacks and the stereotypes created in Western culture. The various means artists have used to counter those stereotypes by using techniques of resistance and counter narratives will be examined. Students will study fine art, comic books, comic strips, cartoons, advertising, literature, music, dance, theatre, cinema, broadcasting and television. This course is not open to students who are enrolled in or who have received credit in ART 108. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

    Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Recommendation: ENGL 52 and READ 54 or equivalent with grades of Pass or "C" or higher, is strongly recommended. This class will investigate the relationship between gender and sexuality through and examination of visual art, cinema, television, video, and advertising. Close attention will be given to how popular and artistic cultures shape identity and representation. Writing a research paper is a significant component of the course. College level reading is required. This course is not open to students who are enrolled in or who have received credit in ART 109. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC

    Class hours: 3.0 Independent Study A course to provide opportunity for individual research and field projects under the direction of a faculty member in a given department. With the guidance of the faculty member, students prepare and carry out a written learning agreement describing the purposes and outcomes of the project. Students should expect to meet with the supervising faculty member one to two hours each week for conferences. Credit is based upon the number of hours in the semester expected to complete the project (1 unit for 54 hours, 2 units for 108 hours). This course may be taken a maximum of 2 times. For selected disciplines, UC transfer credit may be possible after admission to a UC campus, pending review of appropriate course materials by UC staff. See a counselor for an explanation.     Class hours: 1.0 Lecture This course gives students a background of the modern property/casualty insurance system, how insurance products and services are distributed to the consumer, how insurance company departments function, how reinsurance is used to create an insurance company and insure large property and high liability values/limits, an understanding of civil laws or tort and contract, a review of the basic commercial and personal Insurance Services Office (ISO) insurance contracts, and an understanding of the importance of the risk management process. The first segment of the course covers the fundamentals of insurance, including types of insurers, institutions that provide insurance, how it is regulated, and measurements of financial performance. The second segment includes insurance operations, such as marketing, underwriting, and claims. The final segment covers insurance contracts, loss exposure, and risk management.
