Emphasis is placed on a student's work experience as it integrates academic knowledge with practical applications in the business environment. The grade is based on a term paper, job-site visits by the instructor, the employer's evaluation of the student, and the development and assessment by the student of a learning contract.

3 credits, 5 hours (1-4-0) This is a beginning woodworking course which deals with basic materials and processes. Topics include introduction to tools and equipment and safety. Upon course completion, students should be able to perform techniques for building small projects, techniques of gluing, clamping, nailing, and screwing.

3 credits, 7 hours (1-0-6) This is an introductory course to lumber, grades, sizes, characteristics and uses. Also included in the course are the operation, care and sharpening of woodworking equipment. Upon course completion, students should be able to construct and finish a furniture project and demonstrate the characteristics and methods of sawing lumber.

3 credits, 5 hours (1-4-0) This course includes the study of cutting lumber to dimensions and materials to size with power tools. Emphasis is on job planning and the construction of all types of joints made with hand and power tools. Upon course completion, students should be able to plan jobs, make shop drawings, job layouts and patterns.
