Survey of phonology, morphology, and syntax, language universals and typology, history of English and other major world languages, topics in psycho- and sociolinguistics such as language acquisition, situational language change, and the study of regional and ethnic varieties as they reflect and construct the linguistic and cultural diversity of the United States.
