This course offers a comprehensive study of acquired brain injury across the lifespan. Etiologies and evidence-based professional practice standards for the speech-language pathologist are included. Topics such as concussion, brain injury as a chronic condition, and neuroplasticity provide SLP students additional contemporary content. Unique aspects of pediatric brain injury and its implication on developing cognitive, linguistic, social, and behavioral skills are emphasized. Management of acquired and traumatic brain injury including neurobehavioral consequences, interprofessional practice, counseling and education, and cultural considerations prepare students to meet the needs of this unique population.
