This course is designed to provide the student with a detailed experience in statistical sampling methods, ASTM sampling protocols, as well as the proper collection, preservation, and shipping of environmental samples. Students will also learn the basics of project design including budgets, scheduling, working with contractors, and other environmental project design issues. Extensive use of multi-media, internet materials, technical documents, and extensive field exercises/simulations are a key aspect of this lecture/laboratory course. Environmental, health and safety regulations impact all industries throughout the world. This course initiates students to the wide variety of EHS standards that apply to major industries in the United States. Students will have the opportunity to review major EHS regulations and discuss their impact on industry and management of those industries. This course is designed to provide a detailed analysis of selected major environmental regulations in the United States. The topics in the course will concentrate on the impact of specific environmental regulations on industrial and commercial operations in the United States. Students will be required to thoroughly evaluate each regulation and develop compliance programs for a typical facility. Requires: EHSM 208 Typically Offered Fall, Spring

A study of the approaches and techniques of public health and of occupational health and safety inspections. Basic methods of internal audits as well as official regulatory inspections will be covered. The rights and responsibilities of the regulator, employer and employee will be emphasized. Students enroll in a 10 week internship and are expected to work 40- hours per week at their internship site performing assigned tasks. The experience should reflect the wide range of issues a professional faces on a daily basis. The internship is designed as the capstone course for students in the Environmental Health and Safety Management Program. Requires: EHSM 499 Typically Offered Fall, Spring, Summer

Topics for study and project requirements will be negotiated jointly between the faculty member and the student. Typically Offered On Demand EHSM Seminar (EHSM 499) College: College of Allied Health Department: Clinical Lab- Resp Care-Hlth Ad Credit Hours: 2 A seminar on current environmental health and safety issues and practices of concern to the human living, working recreating environment. Student topical research, reporting and discussions will be stressed. Each student will contribute to class participation through active reading, research and topic presentation, and in discussing the materials with other students. Focus of the seminar will be on conceptual understanding of the "big problems" in EHSM as well as emerging issues. Pre- Requisites: Departmental approval. Typically Offered Fall Only
