Emphasis on prevention of water accidents, and optimal readiness of personnel. Certificates in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR issued upon successful completion. Half-semester course. Develops the skills necessary for effective riding, safety precautions, and maintenance tasks for continued utilization of the bicycle. Provides the beginning paddler with a comprehensive background in canoeing gear and clothing, capsize reentry, canoe transport/carries, basic flatwater and river strokes, river dynamics, and trip planning. Development of a personal ethic related to environmental impact and human dynamics in outdoor recreation. Successful completion will result in American Red Cross Fundamentals of Canoeing certification. A beginning level swim test and three-day field trip are required.
