Explores the dimensions of creative and innovative tactical leadership strategies and styles by examining team dynamics and two historical leadership theories that form the basis of the Army leadership framework (trait and behavior theories). Students practice aspects of personal motivation and team building in the context of planning, executing, and assessing team exercises and participating in Leadership Labs. Focus is on continued development of the knowledge of leadership values and attributes through an understanding of Army rank, structure, and duties and basic aspects of map reading, orienteering and squad tactics. Case studies provide tangible context for learning the soldier's Creed, Army values, and ethics as they apply in the contemporary operating environment. Physical fitness participation required once a week. Typically Offered Fall only.

Course parallels subjects in the basic program and substitutes for the basic program as prerequisite for enrollment in the advanced program. Fundamentals of planning military training. Squad and platoon sized tactical operations. Training in military command, control, and communications. Students practice leading squad and platoon sized units in labs and in the field under simulated combat conditions. Pre-Requisites: MSCI 301 or Department approval. Typically Offered Spring Only

    College: College of Education-Human Ser Department: Criminal Justice Credit Hours: 4 This course has a lecture with 3 hours. This course has a lab with 2 hours. Challenges students to study, practice, and evaluate adaptive leadership skills as they are in challenging scenarios. These scenarios are related to small unit tactical operations and used to develop self awareness and critical thinking skills. Students receive systematic and specific feedback on their leadership abilities. Students at this level begin to analyze and evaluate their own leadership values, attributes, skills and actions. Primary attention is given to the development of leadership abilities. Physical fitness required 3-5 days a week. Prerequisites: MSCI 212 or Permission of Department. Typically Offered Fall only.
