Topics include: operations function in service and manufacturing, product and service design, facility location, process selection and capacity planning, design of work systems, aggregate planning, inventory management, MRP, scheduling, quality assurance, organizing for quality, quality of design and performance, inspection and measurement, statistical process control, quality circles and quality improvement. Prerequisites: BUS 311 Traditional and contemporary theories of motivated behavior of individuals and groups are examined and related to the concepts of leadership/managerial style. An examination of the leadership function as it relates to motivation and group effectiveness. (3 Credits)

Included is an examination of ethics and personal values and their impact on professional decisions. (3 Credits)

Sustainable operations of the business firm in society are studied: integrity, globalization, consumerism, governance of the firm, transparency with all stakeholders, business-government relations, resource and energy policy, environment, and the strengths and weaknesses of free markets. Personal values and goals, moral maturity, ethics, exemplary business leaders and their innovative business ventures are also examined. Service learning is part of the course.
