Identifies the needs of students from pre-K to 8th grade who have difficulty developing an understanding of number sense, including the operations, and evaluates effective strategies to meet their needs. Reviews the Big Ideas of number sense, assessment tools, and current mathematics curricula. Prerequisite: EDU 535 or approved waiver.

Develops theoretical and practical knowledge of innovative curricula, flexible classroom environments, and adaptive teaching practices that integrate adaptivephysical, behavioral, social and academic teaching and learning. emphasizes that effective curriculum grows from the intersection of accurate assessment, meaningful schoolwork and a supportive classroom ecology.

Provides direct, guided practice in planning and implementing curricula that address the academic, social, behavioral and physical learning requirements of children with special needs. Emphasizes group problem-solving as participants research, develop and implement curricula and pedagogies which respond to the assessed learning needs of children in inclusive and special classrooms. exceptional learning needs. Must be taken concurrently with SPP 640.

Develop skills assessing academic, social, behavioral domains of children's learning. Emphasizes both informal and formal tools to analyze, interpret and communicate results to families and school teams. Critique assessment results related to Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, curricula, and racial and cultural bias. (Co-requisite: Current placement teaching children; prerequisite: SPE 542; or permission of instructor.)
