This seminar, designed primarily for child care administrators, board members, consultants, and trainers covers the fiscal and legal matters of center management. Topics include liability, informed consent, confidentiality, custody issues, insurance, cash flow and break-even analysis, administration of a sliding fee program and how to control expenditures. (May be substituted for LPA 710 if an additional credit of CTA 900 Independent Study is taken concurrently. Students without substantial administrative experience are advised to take LPA 710.)

For child care administrators, board members, licensors and consultants, this seminar explores the human side of child care management. Topics include theories of organizational development, role conflict and resolution, recruitment, employment, supervision and termination of staff, personnel policies, total quality management and creating a healthy organization.

Focus on child care resource and referral (R&R). Topics include: What resource and referral is and is not; assessing community domain issues; gathering, storing and retrieving child care information; voucher management and welfare reform; cost analysis, marketing and pricing R&R services; and the role of R&R in policy supervisor/director of a specific field. Supervisory support is provided by the college faculty and an administrator at the placement site. Prerequisite of LPA 720/721.

Helps child care directors to improve the quality of the services they provide to children and families. Participants focus on elements of quality, effective mission statements, family-friendly service, marketing, new approaches to leadership and management, technology use and the center's role in community support systems for parents.

Designed for a range of experienced early childhood directors who seek new knowledge and skills in mentoring other adults. Emphasis placed on program change based on authentic needs of communities. Areas of mentoring will include: reflective practices; adult development and learning styles; culturally relevant approaches to staff and parent relations; change processes, advocacy, and leadership development.

Reviews research on quality care programs and best practices for infants and toddlers. Focuses staff training for inclusive, antibias, developmentally appropriate practices. Topics include: designing space, developing respectful policies and practices related to parents, management and resource allocation, and integrating multicultural perspectives as infant and toddler behavior and parenting styles are considered. Prerequisite: College-level course in child or lifespan development, or permission of the instructor.

Examines key elements in experiences teachers' professional and adult development as they explore new roles as mentors in early education settings. Topics include communication, positive interactions among teachers and protégés,effective observation, reflective practice, anti-bias staff development, peer evaluation/support, goal-setting and change processes in leadership development.

Designed for mentor teachers and protégés. Examines elements/theories ofmentoring and classroom applications. Includes 2 two-hour seminars involving mentors and protégés. Topics includeobservation and assessment of environments, classroom management, curriculum, "burnout" prevention,supervision, reflective practice, goal-setting, communications and team-building, adult learning styles and professional and leadership development.
