Prerequisites: ARH 125, ARH 150, ARH 200 Explores the transformation of the cultures of Africans who migrated from their ancestral homes. Students learn about the cultural impact of the Middle Passage. The legacy of this tragedy for contemporary African and Western cultures is also discussed. Students focus on art and craft history, performance art history, media studies, and textile and design studies in order to explore the visual and performance cultures of the descendents of African peoples living in the United States, Brazil, Cape Verde,& Azores, the Caribbean, Portugal,& and Hispanic America.
