Introduces students to jewelry making. Explains the safety regulations for making jewelry as well as the use of jewelry-making equipment and tools (power equipment, pliers, files, saws, etc.). Students work at a silversmith's bench, learning the basic techniques for creating simple pieces of jewelry with design transfer, sawing, filing, soldering, polishing, and simple settings for cabochon stones. Introduces long-lost wax casting methods and wax carving. The aim of the projects is to develop manual and creative ability.
