The course will give the student the opportunity to learn the ancient art of Mosaics. The focus will be on methods of execution of mosaics utilizing ceramic, stone and glass. The student will create individual projects and will have the opportunity to collaborate on group projects such as murals, sculpture, and art installations. (4 studio hours plus 2 additional hours arranged) Prerequisite: One 3-credit art course / 3 credits; may be repeated once for credit.

An opportunity for a student to focus on an individualized form of Visual Art that is not available on an extensive basis in any of our traditional structured credit courses. Projects may vary from semester to semester to allow for innovation, flexibility, and quality of personal experience. Concentrations could focus, for example, on book design, advanced painting, printing, projects in advanced drawing, and portfolio development. (4 studio hours plus 2 additional studio hours arranged) Prerequisite: 6 hours of studio art courses and interview by instructor / 3 credits; may be repeated once for credit. Offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer.

Intensive landscape watercolor painting course with group travel to various locations. Each location will address a particular type of light and color indigenous to that area. The student will learn to cope with the problems unique to outdoor painting in watercolor. It will include individual instruction and critiques as well as a group critique at the end of the day. Not for beginning students. Prerequisite: ART104 / 3 credits.

Students explore, critique, and create art work for portfolio presentation and professional development. The portfolios can be used for transfer or employment. Visual language is developed towards communicating a personal expression and style. Museum, gallery and studio visits, art theory, and art history are used to investigate and develop personal themes and concepts. The student should have a range of art work already completed, in process, and be prepared to create art work that satisfies the demands of portfolio preparation. (4 class hours plus 2 additional studio hours arranged) Prerequisite: ART100 and at least one other studio art elective. All artwork presented will be evaluated by the instructor as a basis for acceptance to the course / 3 credits. Offered in the Fall.

This course is designed to provide a practical experience in a professional graphic arts setting and preparation for a successful career in the graphic design field. Designation of intern site will be based on student academic and career goals. The student works in a graphic design business for 150 hours. Prerequisite: ART205, ART207, ART210, ART214, and BIT220 / 3 credits.

Introductory survey of the history of Deaf people in western culture. American Sign Language, the culture it reflects, various professions and organizations within the Deaf community, legislation impacting Deaf people, and an overview of educational approaches/controversies will be addressed. Emphasis is on the sociological and cultural make-up of Deaf people and the American Deaf community and their relations to non-Deaf society. Members of the Deaf community are involved in class activities. Prerequisite: ENL020 and ENL050 or satisfactory basic skills assessment scores / 3 credits. Offered in the Fall and Spring.

An introductory-level course in American Sign Language intended to give an overview of both the language and the culture of the Deaf community. The course will focus on frequently used signs, basic rules of grammar, and cultural features within the Deaf community. Prerequisite: ENL010 or satisfactory reading comprehension score on the basic skills assessment / 3 credits. Offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer.

This is a continuation of the language and cultural study of the Deaf. It includes further development of receptive and expressive signs, use of the signing space, classifiers, and facial and body expressions. Prerequisite: ASL101 / 3 credits. Offered in the Fall and Spring.

Further development of expressive and receptive communicative skills used with the sign language of the Deaf. Additional emphasis on increasing fluency in the language and in providing an opportunity for proficiency in use through extensive work in vocabulary acquisition, translations of Deaf and English idioms and study of the American Sign Language used by the Deaf. Prerequisite: ASL102 and ASL100 / 3 credits.

This course is designed to develop further competency in expressive and receptive fingerspelling and to study in depth the complex rules and patterns of numbers in ASL. Topics will include phonic syllabication and strategies of fingerspelling, cardinal and ordinal systems, incorporate number systems, and unique number systems. Prerequisite: ASL102 / 2 credits.
