ENL 290: Selected Topics in Literature

Selected Topics in Literature provides students the opportunity to read, discuss and write about a literary specialty. Subjects may include African- American literature, Nobel Prize winning literature, a literary genre, a single author, or a single major work. The course will include intensive reading, analysis of the literature and its influence on society, consideration of criticism of this literature, historical study of the author or authors involved, and discussion of the cultural context of the literature. Specific content will depend on the particular subject chosen for study. May be repeated once for credit. Prerequisite: ENL102 / 3 credits.

Students learn about the roles and attributes of successful entrepreneurs while undergoing a rigorous selfassessment process. Students interview a local entrepreneur, participate in case studies related to new ventures and have the opportunity to learn directly from a variety of speakers invited to class to share their start-up experiences, including ethical dilemmas and other obstacles they will face as entrepreneurs. Students work side by side with a local entrepreneur who is currently experiencing some of the same challenges that the student expects to face with his or her new venture, based upon an agreed upon learning contract. Students assist the entrepreneur with creating all or part of a business plan as well as participating in growing the business. Students receive no less than 300 hours of practical training on a mutually determined schedule. Students must have taken or be currently enrolled in ENT110. Prerequisite: ENT108 and ENT109 / 3 credits.
