DA 320-02: Yoga
2.00 Credits
The Boston Conservatory
Yoga means union of body, mind and spirit. Originating in India at least 2500 years ago, yoga is an enduring and profound science and philosophy. These classes will be in the Iyengar style, a tradition developed by B.K.S. Iyengar of Pune, India. This approach encompasses Patanjali's eight limbs of yoga, toning the internal organs, and creating a balance between flexibility, strength, and spiritual upliftment. Classes teach asanas (poses) including standing poses, inversions, backbends, forward bends, twists, restorative poses, and pranayama (awareness of prana, or breath). Poses are taught using the Sanskrit names, and yogic philosophy will be woven into asana practice. 2 hours weekly; 0.5 credits
