Examines the r le educati n plays in the w rld and in individuals' lives. Using a variety f teaching strategies such as texts, films, news st ries, hist rical d cuments and field trips, the c urse c vers the pe ple, events and ide l gies that have shaped educati nal practices. An emphasis will be placed n s ci ec n mic, p litical, and phil s phical influences n sch ls. Skills prerequisite: ENG 020 and ENG 060.

A c urse designed t devel p the prerequisite reading skills needed f r entry int ENG 020, Reading Skills. Classes c ver such fundamentals as w rd attack skills, v cabulary devel pment, and reading c mprehensi n. C llege credit is awarded but d es n t c unt t ward a degree. The class meets f ur h urs a week. If BCC Learning Skills Assessment results indicate ENG 010 is required, the student must take the c urse during the first semester f enr llment. C urse c mpleti n is by examinati n with PASS/RE grading.

A c urse in the reading skills needed f r better understanding f written material. Classes emphasize c mprehensi n skills, v cabulary building, and inf rmati n pr cessing strategies.
