Junior standing. Not open to students who have completed PORT478A. Cultural expressions resulting from the African presence in Brazil from the sixteenth century to the present, including literature, oral traditions, religion, music, dance, and food.

Prerequisite: PSYC100. Biological basis of behavioral development in relation to genetic, constitutional, anatomical, physiological, and environmental factors. Emphasis upon both phylogenetic and ontogenetic research findings in biological psychology.

Prerequisite: PSYC100. The influence of social factors on the individual and on interpersonal behavior. Includes topics such as conformity, attitude change, person perception, interpersonal attraction, and group behavior.

Prerequisites: BSCI105 and PSYC100. An introduction to the anatomical structures and physiological processes that determine behavior. After a study of the basic functioning of the nervous system, the course will examine the acquisition and processing of sensory information, the neural control of movement, and the biological bases of complex behaviors such as sleep, learning, memory, sex, language, and addiction.

Prerequisites: PSYC 100 and STAT 225 (or PSYC 200). A survey of research methods focusing on the fundamentals of research design and behavior. Topics include scientific writing using APA style, evaluation of research literature, and ethical issues in research. Practice is provided in asking research questions, formulating research hypotheses, designing and conducting a simulated research study, and presenting results.
