Not open to fluent/native speakers of Arabic. An intensive course focusing on developing functional proficiency in the standard Arabic language, both written and formal spoken. Begins with script and phonology, and develops into a limited range of situation-based texts and topics that build vocabulary, grammar, general communicative competence and cultural awareness.

Covers an extended range of situation-based texts and topics that build vocabulary, grammar, general communicative competence and cultural awareness.

Not open to fluent/native speakers of Arabic. Basic knowledge of Arabic script required. Can be taken concurrently with an MSA course. Introduction to the widely spread spoken variety of Egyptian Arabic, covering the basic range of communicative and cultural situations where Modern Standard Arabic is not used. Emphasis is on developing the learners' listening and speaking skills in Egyptian Arabic, since colloquial Arabic dialects are mainly used in speech.

Continuation of ARAB106, covering a wider range of basic vocabulary, grammar forms, communicative and cultural situations using the widely spread spoken variety of Egyptian Arabic. Emphasis on developing learners' listening and speaking skills in Egyptian Arabic, since colloquial dialects in the Arab world are mainly used in speech.

Continuation of ARAB110, covering a wider range of basic vocabulary, grammar forms, communicative and cultural situations using the widely spread spoken variety of Levantine Arabic. Emphasis on developing learners' listening and speaking skills in Levantine Arabic. Will engage students in pedagogical tasks, emulate real life tasks such as information gap and negotiation.

Continued basic study of modern standard Arabic, emphasizing oral communication as a foundation for building a balanced development of proficiency in the four communication skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Basic structures, vocabulary, pronunciation, and writing are practiced. Topics include basic structures, vocabulary, pronunciation, and writing, as well as further elements of culture, history, and geography. Oral and written authentic text from native speakers is used as much as possible.

Arabic culture, history, current events, and geography provide the context for instruction in grammatical structures, vocabulary, pronunciation, and composition. Focus is on acquiring the skills necessary to communicate with native Arabic speakers orally and in writing at an advanced elementary level. Oral and written authentic text is used as much as possible.

Arabic culture, history, current events, and geography provide the context for instruction in grammatical structures, vocabulary, pronunciation, and composition. Focus is on acquiring the skills necessary to communicate with native Arabic speakers orally and in writing at a basic intermediate level. Oral and written authentic text is used as much as possible.

Prerequisite: ARAB102 or equivalent. Intermediate modern standard Arabic I in both its spoken and written forms. Course will continue to develop all four skills of language acquisition: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
