This course provides an overview of how art and creativity influence young children and how early childhood educators, parents, and adults who work with children can assist in this process. Students will consider the important role art plays with children who may be handicapped or from a diverse background. This comprehensive introductory course includes an exploration of a variety of materials, activities, and projects that will stimulate creativity in children. Students will study artists and current children's illustrators and review children's books. Prerequisite: PSY100 or permission of instructor. CR. 3

Focusing on the essence of supervision in the context of social/human service organizations and practice, this course will explore a range of models of supervision as well as the roles, tasks, functions and processes of supervision, including issues of liability, stress and burnout. Prerequisites: HUS212 and PSY330. CR. 3

Interventions appropriate for young children and their families are explored. Social policy, chronic life conditions, and methods for empowering families are addressed. The family life cycle and multicultural perspectives are examined in the context of the school, the family, and the community. Prerequisite: PSY100. CR. 3

This seminar course is designed to enable students to identify, prepare for and complete a successful internship experience in mental health or human services. Students will learn to translate their accomplishments, abilities and attributes into professional goals and will learn strategies to implement these goals. Emphasis will also be placed on understanding organizational structures and cultures, and on developing communication and interpersonal skills essential for succeeding in a professional environment. Prerequisite: senior status in the Bachelor of Science in Mental Health & Human Services Program. CR. 2

Offers students the opportunity to work under supervision in a public or private sector agency for 16 hours a week per semester. Application of skills and knowledge provide the foundation for the course, including crisis intervention, case management and current best practices. Preparation of a comprehensive portfolio is required. Prerequisite: senior status in the Bachelor of Science in Mental Health & Human Services degree and HUS460. Students matriculated in the Bachelor of Science in Mental Health & Human Services degree must complete a total of 12 credit hours to fulfill the internship requirement for graduation. Internships available fall and spring semesters only. CR. 6

Overview of the history and development of libraries and librarianship as a profession. Covers philosophy, professional associations, state and national certification processes, and career opportunities in the library and information fields. Contact with career mentors is encouraged. Introduction to the purpose, functions, services, programming, and organizational structure of various types of libraries in which various kinds of libraries exist as well as the library of the future. Methods, design, and purposes of library programming are also discussed in detail. Prerequisite: ILS100 or permission of program coordinator. CR. 3
