This course is designed to enhance communicative competence at the beginning stage of language learning. It also expands the knowledge of Francophone culture and civilization. Upon the successful completion of this course, students will have the skills that are necessary for novice-high level classification (using ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines).

    Students continue to develop screenwriting skills learned in FS 110 through screening and discussing relevant films, doing, longer screenwriting exercises, and creating a long- form screenplay. (Pre-requisite: FS 110).

    This course focuses on the creative aspects of the editing process, such as the interconnection between concept, script. photography and directing as they relate to editing. This course goes beyond the mechinics of editing and places emphasis on editorial theories and aesthetics. (Pre-requisite: FS 120)

    This course is tailored to the special interests of the student and the needs of the practicum site. Each practicum, therefore, is uniquely selected to allow the student to take advantage of the opportunity to develop as a broadcaster and enhance his/her employability. The course will engage the student in one or perhaps several of the following types of activities: video production, screenwriting, editing, animation, screenwriting and other aspects of film/media production. The nature of practicum obviously precludes complete specifity. Pre-requisites FS 210 and FS 220.

    The student is provided an opportunity to develop a media project(s) that will demonstrate a level of skill and technique closely aligned to that found in the professional media production environment. The student must identify his/her project(s) and provide a written proposal to the instructor within three class meetings. Once the instructor has approved the project, the student is charged with the completition of the project prior to the end of the semester. Pre-requisite: FS 440

    This course introduces the entering student to the University's academic programs, general education requirements, student handbook, university catalog, financial aid, registration, and relevant policies and procedures. This course exposes the first year student to the Grambling State University experience, its rich heritage, traditions, and culture. Other topics covered in this course include college survival skills such as goal setting, time management, study skills, and library usage.

    Part two of the freshman seminar course offers a continuation of the discussions on college survival skills. Topics covered in this course will include problem solving, financial aid and registration, ethics and responsibility, management of personal finances, building positive relationships, diversity, communication styles, standardized tests, computer skills (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and career exploration. THIS IS AN APPROVED SERVICE LEARNING COURSE. Students who pass the course with a C or above should receive 20 hours of service-learning credit.
