This course engages candidates in problem-based field experiences in school settings under the supervision of a mentor.

Based on the proposal developed in EDLD 507 - Using Research to Lead Change, candidates will implement the capstone project by collecting data, organizing collected data and beginning data analysis.

2.00 Credits
Candidates will complete the capstone project proposed in EDLD 507 and begun in EDLD 511 by completing data analysis and writing and presenting results in both written and oral methods.

Provides teacher practitioners with an overview of central concepts, instructional approaches, and tools of inquiry that create meaningful learning experiences. Practitioners are introduced to child, adolescent, and educational psychology to support student cognitive, social, and personal development. Practitioners are also introduced to assessment strategies and to methods that accommodate individual differences and provide diverse learning opportunities. The course exposes the practitioner to instructional processes that promote active engagement in learning and connect educational foundations with technology.

Provides an overview of the special needs of the exceptional child, behavior management theories and practices, and assessment concerns in the areas of cognition, social/emotional, linguistic, and culture. Practitioners enhance their knowledge of special education through classroom, clinical and ifeld experiences, apply theories of development, diversity, and exceptionality to the areas of enhancing family/school/community partnerships, developing a safe and positive learning climate, creating realistic yet dynamic expectations for exceptional learners, and using management/instructional techniques to facilitate learning.

Enables the practitioner to organize content for instructional design and delivery. Emphasis is placed on instructional design that guides the practitioner to plan and prepare grade-level appropriate instructional methods, assessment strategies, and technology integration for diverse learners. Reflective teaching practices are employed to maximize student achievement.

Explores theaching methodology in the areas of classroom management and organizaion , the methods and materials used, and assessment techniques. Practitioners identify and plan for individual differences, develop objectives, activities and assessments that promote learning in inclusive and/or least restrictive environments. Additionally, practitioners develop management plans to maximize academic learning time, and manage transitions effectively. Practitioners use technology effectively and design materials that are appropriate for the learner, stimulate critical thinking and maximize opportunities for independent performance. Furthermore, practitioners will participate in school, family and community enhancement activities.

Affords practitioners an opportunity to explore needs of the learner with regard to transition and vocational services, and design methods, materials, and assessments that will address student needs as the student transitions to post-secondary education, post-school employment and/or community living. Practitioners visit training sites and classrooms as well as actual work sites employing persons with exceptionalities in selected parishes for field and clinical experiences. Practitioners develop learning plans for students, review IEP and ITP processes, identify resources and needs, and develop plans for working with students, caregivers and communities.

Provides opportunities for practitioners to refine skills and methods for effective teaching with an emphasis on classroom management and organization. The course examines appropriate grade level classroom management techniques and motivational theories ranging from behavioral to humanistic approaches. Emphasis is placed on the development of classroom management plans to manage student behavior, to increase learning engagement, and to create safe environments that respect diversity. Practitioners use technology to manage, assess, and enhance student learning.

3.00 Credits
This course provides the support for practitioner teachers to transfer the theory learned in the university setting into the concrete reality of the school setting. The seminar targets relevant and pertinent issues is captured in four modules spanning topics such as curriculum planning and instructional strategies, assessment, classroom management, teacher partneships and cultural diversity. While other courses have included these topics, there is a need to provide opportunities to further focus and refine teaching practices. This course is the first part of a two semester requirement.
