CHEM 464: Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Laboratory

Provides students with "hands on" experiencesin molecular biology/biotechnology. Experiments include the use of column chromatography to separate mixtures; use of electrophoresis to isolate proteins and DNA; use of restriction enzymes to cleave the DNA molecule; and, use of genetically engineered plasmid to transform E.coli cells. In addition, students will perform experiments to isolate and amplify DNA using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. Prerequisites: CHEM 461 or approval by the department head. Co-requisite: CHEM 462.
