This course provides students with a background in Spanish literature from its origin to the Golden Age. Spanish 326 offers a representative selection of Spanish Peninsular literature from the earliest works to those of the mid-seventeenth century. Students are to read extracts of the most reprensentative writers of the period starting with the epic poem of the cid through Don Quijote, and selected masterpieces of Quevedo, Lope de Vega, and others.

Provides the student with a theoretical background of phonetics and phonology and a systematic and workable program for aiding him/her to speak Spanish. Special laboratory practices will be used in the course. English and Spanish sound systems will be contrasted. Prerequisites: SPAN 307.

This course is designed to enhance communicative competence at the beginning stage of language learning. It also expands the knowledge of Hispanic culture and civilization. Upon the successful completion of this course, students will have the five C's skills--communication, culture, connections, comparisons, communities--that are necessary for novice-high level classification (using ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines).
