Introduces the student to the major functions of modern law enforcement agencies and personnel. Special attention is given to career opportunities and alternatives in the field of law enforcement.

Is designed for students who are interested in a career as a forensic scientist or criminalist. Students interested in advanced techniques for criminal investigation are also encouraged to take this course. The course examines the use of science to solve crime. Topics include the use of physics, chemistry, and other science disciplines in crime investigation. Students explore forensic identification, analysis, and examination. Topics covered include serology, ballistics, toxicology, organic, and inorganic analysis.

An organized course offering the opportunity for intensive examination of specialized topics in criminal justice not normally or not often available as part of regular course offerings. Course involves lectures, readings and classroom discussion of selected topics. Special topics may be repeated for credit when topics vary. Specific topic will be indicated when offered.

Will introduce the student to the U.S. Constitution and its impact upon the criminal justice system. The course will preview the seven Articles that establish the formation of the federal government and the balance of power. It will also preview the 27 Amendments to the Constitution with particular attention to the first ten and the 14th Amendments and their impact upon the society. The course will also examine the decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court and the impact of those decisions on our legal system.

Exposes the student to the issues and practices of a modern corrections system. Students will examine the historical development of the current system as well as the role of corrections in our society. Students will also explore the methods of corrections management and current corrections practices. During the course students will study the issues facing the corrections system today. These issues include: ethics, race relations, behavior modification, punishment, and the future of the corrections system.

Examines the organization and administrative activities of government in carrying out public policy. Students will study the basics of public policy management, administrative functions, organization, accountability, finance, and personnel issues as they arise in a government or other public institution.

This course examines the basic training methods used to train dogs in a service role. Students are exposed to the topics of breed identification, standards, care, grooming, psychology and behavior, and career opportunities for canine handlers. Students also receive training on obedience methods, grooming, and health care for the canine.

This course focuses on the basic use of a canine in police service. Students will explore the use of the canine partner in the areas of arrest, apprehension, building search, and protection.

Is designed to instill a greater appreciation for freedom of expression, provide an overview of the diverse field of communications law, and impart a functional understanding of the legal rules and principles that are generally relevant to journalism and mass communication professionals in the U.S.

Examines the management of a modern law office with an emphasis on management principles, legal structure, filing and record keeping, attorney-client relationship, billing systems and procedures. This course also explores accepted methods of accounting, inventory control, marketing, and personnel management as it relates to the law office. A special section has been added to address the issues associated with law office technology.
