Is designed to introduce students to the basic principles and practices of growing economically important plants. Students will become familiar with growth factors of plants, characteristics of soils, practices involved in growing local crops, plant morphology, identification of local plants, and plant pest management. This class is a prerequisite to Plant Science. Credit by examination is offered.

Animal Management helps to acquaint agricultural students with production aspects of the horse industry. It introduces the basic concepts of inheritance, breeding systems, nutrition and physiology of reproduction; concepts of lactation, growth, health, and muscular work; and acquaints students with marketing procedures.

This course is designed to develop in students the ability to quickly and accurately identify plants and diagnose problems in field crops, and prepare for national competition in agronomy.

Is designed to acquaint students with the basic concepts and issues of the livestock, dairy, and poultry industries. The class will cover aspects in the areas of genetics, feeding, health, reproduction, and production systems for the major domestic species.

Helps to acquaint agricultural students with the scope of the livestock, dairy and poultry industries. It introduces the basic concepts of inheritance, breeding systems, nutrition and physiology of reproduction; concepts of lactation, growth, egg laying and muscular work; and acquaints students with marketing procedures, carcass and slaughter grades, principles of carcass grading and aids in the evaluation of live animals.

Is designed to give a basic understanding of animal nutrition. More specifically, this class will cover characteristics of feedstuffs, digestive processes and ration formulation in domestic animals. Prerequisite: Animal Science and Intermediate Algebra or two years of high school algebra.

Advanced Animal Science is designed to acquaint students with more complex concepts and issues of the livestock, dairy, and poultry industries. The class will cover aspects in the areas of genetics, feedings, health, reproduction, and management strategies for the major domestic species.

Is designed to provide the students with a basic understanding of techniques used to evaluate animal quality. The goal of this class is to make each student more adept at evaluating differences in animals of the same species. This course is also the first step for trying out for the Livestock Judging Team.

Is an advanced animal evaluation course in which students learn to utilize EPD's, performance scenarios, expected carcass values and/or performance data to evaluate livestock. Prerequisite: Principles of Livestock Selection I.

2.00 Credits
Aquaints equine management students with basic concepts involved in working with horses. This class will stress safety when working with equines, for both human and horse. Horse psychology, learning, and training concepts will be introduced.
