Introduces the student to the theories of ethics and its application within the legal profession. Students will explore the common rules of ethics including the need for zealous representation, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, and unauthorized practice of law.

Builds on the basics learned in Legal Research and Writing I. Students will learn advanced research skills needed to write briefs, legal opinion, and related legal documents. Students will also learn how to write legal instruments such as wills, contracts, petitions, complaints, motions, and other instruments.

Focuses on the procedural rules and law that guide civil actions through the court system. Students will examine the topics of pre-trial investigation, preparing the lawsuit, filing the suit, pre-trial litigation, discovery, trial, defense, appeal, and related topics. Students will also explore the rules of evidence and appellate procedure.

Focuses on the foundations of real property law as it applies to the ownership, use, and transfer of property by private, commercial, and government entities. Students will examine the principles of ownership, possession, control, and use. Students will also explore the areas of encumbrances, easements, licenses, contracts, deeds, title examination, and related topics. Students will also examine the landlord and tenant relationship with special emphasis on commercial and dwelling properties.

Covers the various legal principles and theories associated with tort law and personal injury litigation. Students will examine intentional torts, negligence, property torts, defamation, privacy, nuisance, causation, product liability, strict liability, and other areas.

Focuses on the effective administration of estates and the creation of wills and trusts. Students will explore the means for creating and managing a valid trust. Students will also examine the procedures and law for creating a valid will. Other topics covered in the class include probate procedure, tax issues, and estate planning.

This is a travel-study course designed to give students a first-hand experience of how the different criminal justice systems compare to that of and in the United States.

A comprehensive police officer survival seminar designed for basic and in-service police training. The course includes an examination of the laws regarding the use of force, civil and criminal liability, mental conditioning, post shooting trauma, and the dynamics of lethal force. It will also cover a range of special topics including biomedical hazards, dealing with gangs, and plainclothes and off-duty officer survival. Strenuous physical activity may be expected in this course. Instructors must be advised of any medical condition that would prevent this involvement in the training.

Is a course designed for currently employed law enforcement officers that will upgrade their patrol procedures in the following areas: Fingerprinting, Accident Investigation, Report Writing, Crime Detection, Firearms, and Control of Violence and Rioting procedures.
