Introduction to nursing process and documentation. Nursing theories are briefly surveyed. Emphasis is placed on the development critical thinking skills in the application of nursing process through exercises in care planning and nursing documentation. Students learn and utilize nursing diagnosis (NAN), nursing interventions classification (NIC), critical pathways, and other nursing documentation methods for these exercises. This course offers an introduction to health assessment through the application of holistic nursing theory and nursing process to clinical nursing practice. The nursing process and the role of the nurse are examined in relation to the health assessment of individuals across their lifespan. Emphasis is placed on modes of investigation and inquiry in gathering data concerning physiological, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual aspects of human experiences. Legal and ethical considerations related to the nurse's role in health assessment are explored.
