By describing how to find pertinent scientific literature on a topic, problem, or question, explaining how to apply for summer research internships at marine laboratories and oceanographic institutions, and describing the organizational need and elements of the research report, the student should be able to design an independent research project, write the background or introduction of the report from library research and interviews.
