Prerequisite and Corequisite: EEX 3202, EEX 4101, EEX 3252 or its equivalent This reading methods course focuses on the principles of scientifically-based reading research as the foundation of comprehensive reading instruction. The assessment and development of the major components of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension are discussed. Included in this course is the development of standards-based lessons and strategies for differenentiating instruction to accommodate diverse learners. The purpose of the course is to prepare pre-service teachers to teach reading to students with a wide range of abilities, including those who are also English Language Learners. Field experience is required.
