AFH 3990: Experimental: African History
0.00 - 12.00 Credits
University of North Florida
Modern Africa: In the nineteenth century Africa was called 'the dark continent', a term given to what was then a region somewhat unknown by Europeans. Today it is most frequently portrayed by the media as a continent in crisis through 'dark side' stories: economic decline, drought, HIV/AIDS, Ebola, political disorder, warfare and cultural disintegration. The vitality, achievements, and potential of African societies are overlooked. The overall objective of this course will be to provide students with a more balanced understanding of sub-Saharan Africa cultures, their history, traditions, diversity, innovation, and current developments.
