It follows courses in the foundations of literacy development and methods and resources for literacy teaching/learning. It will enable preservice teachers to understand the scope and place of diagnosis and subsequent literacy instruction in the literacy development program; the roles played by the classroom teacher and other specialized personnel in the school; the wise use of a variety of diagnostic tools(tests and other measurement techniques) to measure literacy ability, and based on such measurement, evaluate the student's literacy abilities; the planning and implementation of an appropriate instructional program based on such an evaluation.
