Directed research leading to the submission of an interpretive and analytical, rather than merely narrative, essay of approximately 40 pages in length. The paper may either be based on research into a particular topic for which there is accessible source materials, or it may involve a thorough critical assessment of a significant historical controversy or historiographical issue. Students must obtain the consent of an appropriate supervisor prior to registration, and topics must be approved by the Department Honors Coordinator.
