Assists students in understanding the critical issues confronting the police, courts, and corrections as Criminal Justice professionals prepare to move into the next century. The course will focus on such issues as the use of discretion in practitioner decision-making; the impact of the law on Criminal Justice agency behavior; racial and gender issues; ethical issues and dilemmas; the impact of external influences on the operation of Criminal Justice agencies; the privatization of Criminal Justice services; and the future of the American Criminal Justice system. This course will provide a knowledge base from which Criminal Justice majors can either proceed to graduate courses or enter the field. This course can be particularly useful for the student who is currently considering an internship or employment in a Criminal Justice agency. CRJ majors only. This class is not available for graduate credit.
