Focuses upon historical factors that shaped the lives of American women in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Changing standards of behavior, expectations of marriage and family, and options of work outside the home will be explored, as well as women's demands for equality in education, careers, and citizenship. Women's differing experiences based on race, ethnicity, religion, region, social class, and age will be discussed. If prerequisite courses are not met instructor approval is required.
