This course serves as an introduction to music theory in the Western tradition for general students and as the first course in the Music Theory and Ear Training sequence for music majors. Topics include rhythm and pitch notation, the piano keyboard, meter, intervals, scales, modes, key signatures, melody, harmony, analysis, composition, style, and the connection between notated music and its sound.
