This course examines the design principles necessary to use bacteria, fungi, and mammalian cells in bioengineering applications, including molecular techniques, fermentation, process scale-up, purification processes, and FDA regulations. The production of biopharmaceuticals derived from recombinant systems, including uses in medical systems, in emphasized. May also be offered as BIOE 6400.
