This course simulates medical coding in the real world and is designed to give a full account of the healthcare code sets used within medical coding: Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS), International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM), and International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision, Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS). Codes are presented along with an account of healthcare billing basics, as well as a description of the interconnectedness of medical coding and billing. Students gain knowledge in use of American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) VLab software, specifically 3M Coding and Reimbursement System.
