(Fulfills MNTC Areas: 6, 7) This introductory course focuses on American Rock music starting in the 1950's through to today and spends time on what led to the birth of Rock n Roll as well as its global offspring, especially from England. Music will be discussed within the social and historical context of diverse cultures in America and the development of diverse musical aesthetics with particular emphasis placed on the impact that African American men and women had on its development.
