This course is an introduction to diagnosis coding and hospital procedure coding for billing and insurance purposes. Topics include the basis for classifying and indexing diagnoses and hospital procedures for the purpose of standardization, retrieval, and statistical analysis. The course prepares students to assign International Classification of Diseases (ICD) diagnostic codes supported by medical documentation with entry-level proficiency. Prerequisites: HLTH1106, BIOL2260, BIOL2262.
