This course covers the continued study of various chemicals in plasma/serum that are routinely analyzed to contribute to patient care. The physiology, test methodology and clinical correlations of proteins, enzymes, electrolytes, lipids, acid/base balance, and endocrinology are discussed. The course also includes a brief overview of therapeutic drug monitoring and toxicology. Instrumentation principles/methodologies found in modern clinical chemistry laboratories and concepts that are basic to the operation and maintenance of automated laboratory instruments are covered. Students will test patient samples and quality control material using a variety of automated analyzers. Students will use a laboratory information system to order tests and report results. (Prerequisite(s): BIOL 1740 or concurrent enrollment & a grade of "C" or better in MDLT 1421 & HLTH 1410 & BIOL 1730.) 4C/1/3/0
